Portrait of Dr. Tomoko Inose

Dr. Tomoko Inose is a Program-Specific Associate Professor at the Hakubi Center for Advanced Research and the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (WPI-iCeMS) at Kyoto University. She also holds a concurrent position as an Associate Professor in the Department of Synthetic Chemistry and Biological Chemistry at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Engineering.

Dr. Inose earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Osaka University in 2015. She then served as an Assistant Professor at Hokkaido University's Research Institute for Electronic Science from 2015 to 2020, working in Prof. Hiroshi Uji-i’s laboratory. In 2020, she joined Kyoto University as an Assistant Professor in Prof. Shuhei Furukawa’s group, before assuming her current roles in 2023.

Her research focuses on developing nanoscale optical tools for single-cell analysis. By integrating nanowire-based endoscopy with nonlinear optics, she aims to manipulate and observe intracellular processes with high spatiotemporal resolution. This innovative approach facilitates the precise delivery and detection of biomolecules within live cells, advancing our understanding of cellular heterogeneity and function.

In recognition of her pioneering work, Dr. Inose was awarded the JST PRESTO grant in 2021 for her project on nanowire-based single-cell diagnosis. She has also received the Asian Research Network (ARN) Young Scientists Award in 2022 and the Konica Minolta Imaging Science Encouragement Award in 2020.
