Prof. Dr. Dietrich RT Zahn
Institute of Physics, Technische Universität Chemnitz
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dietrich R. T. Zahn is a distinguished physicist specializing in semiconductor physics and nanotechnology. He holds the Chair of Semiconductor Physics at Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz), a position he has held since 1993. He earned his Ph.D. in 1988 from the University of Wales in Cardiff and completed postdoctoral research at TU Berlin.
Prof. Zahn's research focuses on the spectroscopic characterization of semiconductor surfaces and interfaces, ultra-thin films, and low-dimensional structures. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of electronic and optical properties in these materials, contributing to developments in molecular spintronics and sensor technologies.
He has authored over 800 publications, reflecting his extensive contributions to the field. His leadership roles include serving as Pro-Rector for Research at TU Chemnitz and heading the Thin Film Division of the German Physical Society. He has also coordinated major research initiatives, such as the DFG Research Units "Towards Molecular Spintronics" and "Sensorical Micro and Nano Systems."
In recognition of his outstanding work, Prof. Zahn received an honorary doctorate from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, honoring his research on semiconductor interfaces and his efforts in fostering academic collaborations.
